To schedule an audition, please
contact the appropriate area coordinator listed below.
In accordance with University selective admissions
standards, undergraduate music majors who wish to circumvent
provisional status and become fully accepted by the School of Music are
required to present a audition for the faculty. The audition
consists of a performance audition and a music theory placement
test. Preparation for the performance component would include a
prepared selection, etudes, and scales (if appropriate), and sight
reading. Those interested in jazz studies would also be expected
to demonstrate improvisation skills. During the audition, faculty are
interested in assessing the student's aptitude for success in the
desired program. All undergraduate concentrations (including
music education) require a senior recital.
Students
may
audition for the SOM anytime during the spring semester by contacting
the music office by email or phone at (337) 482-6016 for a referral to an appropriate faculty
member (see below).
