| Currently UL-Lafayette offers four jazz combos, all of which are open to university students through the audition process. Jazz Combo 3 is the entry-level combo designed for instrumentalists possessing basic to intermediate improvisational skills. For the more advanced player, Jazz Combo 2 performs a wide variety of jazz tunes and styles. Our top jazz combo is Jazz Combo 1. Requiring advanced improvising skills, this highly-select group performs jazz standards, bebop, and post-bop tunes that are all part of the jazz player's repertoire. Directed by Dr. Robert Luckey, this exceptional group has been featured at both the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival as well as the Annual Conference of the International Association of Jazz Educators. Our newest jazz combo is the Jazz Guitar Quintet, which utilizes special arrangements for guitars and rhythm section. |
