Directed by Dr. William Hochkeppel, the Jazz Ensemble is UL's premier big band. Utilizing complete sections of trumpets, trombones, and saxophones, along with piano, bass, drums, and guitar, this exceptional group is open to all university students through the audition process. In addition to performing new jazz arrangements in a wide variety of styles, the Jazz Ensemble also plays a number of the famous recorded arrangements by such internationally-recognized big bands as those led by Count Basie,Stan Kenton, Dave Holland, and Gordon Goodwin. Besides on-campus concerts, the Jazz Ensemble frequently performs in area high schools as well as regional jazz festivals.
