Robert Willey received his Ph.D. in theoretical studies and M.A. in computer music from the University of California, San Diego. He was a research associate at the Center for Computing and the Arts where he worked for five years assisting a music technology exchange between Stanford University, U.C.S.D., and a studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He taught in Brazil for two years, first as a Fulbright Scholar at the Federal University in Minas Gerais, and then as a visiting professor at the Carlos Gomes Conservatory and Federal University of Pará, where he developed a teacher training course in creating online courses. Willey is a composer/performer/programmer whose specialty is the development of interactive computer systems. His teaching and research is in music media and theory. He has created a multimedia laboratory in the School of Music where he is developing sound spatialization and video processing environments. His work in music theory includes efficiency in learning, and the analysis of the musics of Antonio Carlos (Tom) Jobim and Conlon Nancarrow. He is an associate at the Center for Culture and Eco-Tourism and involved with the development of Louisiana's music infrastructure and documentation of regional culture.
