A proud Cajun from Ville Platte, Louisiana, Sonia graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Louisiana Lafayette (formerly USL) She went on to complete her MFA in Dance from Florida State University and also received an Associate of Arts in Business Administration from Keiser College. Sonia has been involved in all forms of dance since a young age: as a dancer, dance educator, dance teacher, performer, and choreographer with emphasis on modern and ballet. She has performed in traditional, alternative and site-specific venues. She has performed works by Isadora Duncan Foundation, Shapiro & Smith, Urban Bush Women, Eiko & Komo, Mark Taylor, Martha Graham, Donald McKayle, Doris Humphrey, Jennine Willett, Tom Pearson, Linda Davis, Kenneth Jenkins and Sara Stravinska. She has choreographed and presented her own works in Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Utah. She has also choreographed and performed numerous Theatre productions including The Misanthrope, Fools, Madame Butterfly, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and A Christmas Carol.

In addition to her work as a choreographer and performer, Sonia has extensive training and experience in fitness and dance medicine. She is part of the BDI Health and Wellness Program at The Washington School of Ballet, which provides yearly screening for The Washington Ballet Company. She studies neuromuscular training yearly with Irene Dowd in New York City and attends international and national conferences. She has been a member of International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) since 2001 and on the Dance Science and Somatic Educators Committee (chair 2008).
