University of Louisiana at
Lafayette
Upon arriving
- Be on time. You are required to be present during the
entire hour you sign up for (see schedule).
Students and faculty depend on the facility being open
during posted times. You are responsible for finding a
substitute if you are not able to be present. Report any
times missed to Dr.
Willey. Consult with Dr. Willey if you need to change
the time of your regular hours.
- Know the security code and procedure for turning on and
off the alarm. If the alarm beeps when you come in you
will have to turn it off. Find out from Sheila how to get
the key for the door and the CD cabinet. Sign out the key
on the page in the drawer
where they are kept.
Tasks
Do not expect to do your own work during Resource Center
hours. You are paid to provide a service. Take some initiative
and improve the facility during when you are not busy attending
to users. You may do your own work only if no one needs
assistance and all the tasks listed below have been completed.
- Check in the "CD requests" box (on the desk) to
see if any CD's have been requested by faculty. If they
have, check them out to the faculty member, put them in
the CD pickup box (on the bookshelf), and
leave a note in the person's mailbox. Faculty should fill
out a reqest form and leave
it in the request box.
- Return all material to its proper location.
- Pick up trash.
- Read the frequently asked question
info and contribute your experience.
- Organize the desk and back areas. Check for overdue
material checked out to faculty (see below).
- Enter material in the database
as assigned.
Organization of desk and back areas
- Spend at least 15 minutes every day organizing and
becoming familiar with our collection behind the desk and
in the back area. You will find things of interest to
yourself and be able to help students more quickly.
- As you enter the back area, LP's are stored on the left
side. These are mostly used for professors for classroom
demonstrations.
- In the middle there is an aisle with books on the right
and scores on the left. The miniature scores along the
top are in boxes organized by composer. These can be
checked out to teachers for classroom use.
- There is a shelf running the length of the aisle on the
left side of the aisle that is piano music. It should be
filed alphabetically by composer.
- Books are along the right side of the aisle.
- On the right side of the shelves are back issues of
magazines. More current issues are in the rack on the
wall separating the back room from the printer in the
main space. The most current issue of the magazine should
be displayed vertically, and as many of the recent back
issues as will fit horizontally underneath each by title.
Checking out material to students
Students may use material in the Resource Center only. Make an
entry on the checkout sheet for materials given to students and
collect their student ID card. Keep an eye on paper materials
(sometimes pages get ripped out). Make sure everything has been
returned before giving back their ID (sometimes CD cases come
back with no disk inside). Put the material back where it goes.
Do not leave things lying on the desk.
Checking out material to faculty
Faculty may check out CD's for one week and printed material
for two weeks. Put the due date on the checkout card and file in
the card file. Go through the file periodically and see if any
thing is overdue. If it is, send a reminder
and put a note in the daily log who you have contacted. Faculty can consult their general
information page if they have questions.
Reserve material
There is information about reserve material in a section of
the binder. Faculty should log the material
they have put on reserve for the semester and put the sheet(s) in
the binder. Reserve material is stored on the shelves behind the
desk and cannot be taken out.
Headphones are stored in a box underneath the desk. Students may borrow headphones to use with a computer or audio system by leaving their I.D. card with the attendent.
Maintenance form
Fill out a maintenance form if
anything is broken and leave it in Dr. Willey's box.
Before you leave
- Make an entry in the logbook about
your session. Note any special activity or comments.
- Pick up trash.
- Push in chairs.
- Check to see that all windows are closed and locked.
- Turn off all the lights.
- If you are the last one signed up for the day, shut down
all the iMac's (not the G4 server) and set the alarm.
Return and sign the key back in to the drawer.
Duplication
It is illegal to copy CD's of copyrighted material. It is also
prohibited to make cassette copies of CD's or records.
Students pay 5 cents for each page they print on the laser
printer. Put the money in the jar. When it accumulates give it to
Ms. Sheila in the School of Music office.
