Aubrey Shirts
Dr. Aubrey Shirts received her Doctor of Musical Arts and Masters Degree in Music from the University of Utah in clarinet performance, with an emphasis in music education. Additionally, she earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Southern Utah University. Dr. Shirts currently teaches at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, overseeing the clarinet studio and applied saxophone. She previously managed the clarinet studio at Utah Tech University (formerly Dixie State University), and taught general music education classes. She also served as Artist Affiliate at Southern Utah University from 2017–2021. Professional engagements include the Grand Circle New Music Ensemble, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, Tuacahn Center for the Arts, and the Neil Simon Festival.
Her most recent performances include performing at ClarinetFest 2022 in Reno, Nevada, recitals at Dixie State University, SUU Woodwind Day, and the Red Rock Jazz Orchestra. Dr. Shirts was a featured presenter and performer at the UMEA Winter Conference, the Las Vegas Clarinet Day Festival, and the Utah Clarinet Festival. An active music educator, she teaches masterclasses and adjudicates music festivals throughout southern Utah and provides private music instruction in St. George. Prior to her graduate degrees, Dr. Shirts was Director of Bands at Layton High School and Piano Area Chair for the Salt Lake School for Performing Arts. Her teachers include Professor Kathy Pope, Dr. Virginia Stitt, Dr. George Stoffan, Dr. Holly Haddad, and Greg Johnston.
