The UL Lafayette OPERA THEATRE AND OPERA WORKSHOP have a successful performing history in musical theatre reaching back to the 1960's. It's three-fold mission has been to provide a training ground for young performers with its mainstage productions, educate a new generation of musical theatre lovers with its tours in public schools, and enrich the cultural life of the campus by performing works not often seen in commercial venues.
Performing highlights from the last four years include: a performance of Sunday Excursion at the National Opera Association National Convention in New Orleans, tours ofGoldilocks and the Three Bears which played to over 8,000 school children in the three parish area, and notable on campus perfomances of COMPANY, PIRATES OF PENZANCE, SIGNOR DELUSO, CABARET, H.M.S. PINAFORE and FANTASTICKS in collaboration with the Performing Arts Department.
