Dr. Jeffrey George
Jeffrey George, professor of guitar studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, received the doctorate in musical arts degree on a graduate scholarship at Arizona State University in Tempe where he studied as graduate teaching assistant with celebrated guitarist Frank Koonce and also taught for the ASU guitar college preparatory program. While teaching as an associate instructor at the Indiana University School of music, he earned his masters degree in performance studying under Argentine guitarist, Ernesto Bitteti. Dr. George received his bachelors degree in studying under Paul Reilly at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Dr. George has been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including support for academic programs at Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California and the National Guitar Summer Workshop. He has been invited to play in masterclasses for Eliot Fisk, Manuel Barrueco, David Russell and Eduardo Fernandez.
Dr. George maintains an active performing career. Upcoming concert performances include visits to Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, and Indiana as well as throughout Louisiana. His doctoral dissertation, Angelo Michele Bartolotti: Performance Edition of Thirteen Suites from Libro Secondo di Chitarra (1655) was recently accepted for publication by Mel Bay, Inc., one of the largest publishers of guitar music in the United States.Prior to his appointment at UL Lafayette, Dr. George directed the guitar program at Phoenix College in Arizona.
Dr. George’s jazz teachers include Joe Pass, Jack Wilkins, Joe Diorio, Ted Greene and Jon Herington. His performance credentials include appearances with Joe Henderson, Billy Childs, Richard “Groove” Holmes, Ritchie Havens, Taj Mahal and David Baker. Dr. George is an active member of the Guitar Foundation of America, American String Teachers Association, and the College Music Society. |
