Assistantships
Graduate Assistantships (GA) are available based on departmental need and students’ performance level. These assistantships provide a tuition waiver and a stipend of $10,700. Assistantships are renewable for up to two academic years dependent upon GPA, progress towards degree, and departmental evaluation of assistantship duties. Partial on-campus housing stipends are also available.
A very limited number of university competitive Masters’ Fellowships are also available. These provide $11,000 per year with no departmental duties for students with the highest GPA and GRE scores. These fellowships are available for one year only. The graduate student would be given the usual Graduate Assistantship for the subsequent year.
Some financial aid is also available from the Friends of Music also based on departmental need and students’ performance level.
Also, for graduate students in music education, the Teacher Tuition Incentive Program is available on a limited basis. This provides a partial waiver of tuition. Eligibility criteria are available from the Graduate School website. Inservice teachers may also wish to consult their local school boards for tuition assistance and sabbatical leave possibilities.
