The Vocal Area offers numerous choral and solo experiences for singers, all of which are open to students of any major on campus. Whether you have had prior instruction, or are just looking to begin, there is a course that will fit your interest and level.

The Vocal Area is a vibrant and inclusive community of singers offering every student opportunities to perform, collaborate, and study. Our mission is to develop as insightful musicians, supportive peers, and critical thinkers through both traditional and contemporary approaches and repertoire.

Featured Ensembles &Amp; Opportunities
- Chamber Singers: open to all students of any major, pending an audition.
- UL Lafayette Chorale: open to all students of any major (tenor and bass voices)
- Vermilion Voix: open to all students of any major (soprano and alto voices)
- The UL Lafayette Opera Theatre performs full productions of both music theatre and operatic repertoire, often in collaboration with the UL Lafayette Symphony, the Acadiana Symphony and the Performing Arts department. Open to all students of any major pending an audition.
- Applied Voice: intensive private lessons for credit, available to all students, pending an audition.
- Class Voice: open to all students looking for an introduction to singing through group instruction.
More Ways to Study
- Traditional Music: Open to vocalists interested in performing and studying Cajun folksong, Zydeco or Bluegrass traditions.
- Jazz Studies: singers can pursue a concentration in voice through the Jazz Studies major.
- Music Media or Recording Arts: Open to students interested in music production, engineering, and technology. Options to study on a primary instrument or voice vary based on degree.
