Sara Birk received her BA in Fine Arts from Alfred University and she completed her graduate studies with an MFA in Acting and an MA in Theatre at the University of Montana. Prior to coming to UL Lafayette, Ms. Birk spent her time in Missoula, Montana as an actor, director, stage manager and educator. Now at UL Lafayette, she teaches Acting I, Intro to Theatre and Performing Arts, Activities in Dramatics, the Voice for the Actor course sequence, the Theatre History course sequence, and Play Text Analysis. She continues to perform and direct. She has most recently performed in UL's production of Electra in the role of Clytemnestra, Kaleidoscope as part of Festival Internationale, 18 Victoria as part of the 2013 New Orleans Fringe Festival, and a short selection from A Disappearing Number for the 2014 ArtTECH Fusion. Recent directing projects for the Performing Arts program mainstage season include Good Thing, Picnic, Enchanted April, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (for which she earned a Meritorious Achievement Award in Directing from the Region 6 Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival), and Arcadia. Professor Birk was also named as one of the University's Outstanding Academic Advisors annually from 2014-2017. She currently holds the Coca-Cola/BORSF Endowed Professorship in Performing Arts.
