Performing Arts
In the Performing Arts program at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, we offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Performing Arts with concentrations in Dance and Theatre.
Intensive and Intelligent Training
In our Performing Arts program, you’ll engage in intensive study of theatre and dance to express your unique artistic vision of the world around you. Whether you concentrate in Dance or Theatre, you’ll develop a broad range of skills to give you a strong foundation, paired with advanced techniques so you are prepared for exciting artistic endeavors.
But the Performing Arts program at UL Lafayette isn’t just about the technique and technical skills. We want you to be creative in your own right—learning how to approach performance, how to solve artistic problems, and how to maintain the discipline and focus necessary to produce high-caliber work. Through work in the studio, in performances, and immersion in the history and theory of Theatre and Dance, you will become a versatile artist.
Individual Artists, Part of the Ensembles
You’ll have close working relationships with our Performing Arts faculty, ensuring that you’ll get academic and career advice tailored to your specific abilities, interests and ambitions. Our faculty is a team of artists and scholars who have extensive professional artistic experience and academic credentials. We want you to be part of our ensemble, working together to a common goal of exceptional performance and design, where your unique gifts can be nurtured and stimulated in your quest for artistic achievement, technical mastery and scholarly excellence.
Learn by Doing
In the Performing Arts, we learn by doing. We present two main stage performances each semester (one in Dance and one in Theatre) along with additional performance opportunities through work on student-driven performances, collaboration with other programs and people on campus, and with outside artists. In addition to your work with faculty and peers, you’ll have opportunities to work with guest artists, experience professional artists in residence, and participate in both the American College Dance Association and the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. UL Lafayette also has chapters of Chi Tau Epsilon Dance Honors Society and Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honors Society, so you can enjoy added opportunities to interact with like-minded peers.
Proven Results
Our graduates have taken their talents and training into a wide variety of post-graduate ventures. In addition to performing with a variety of professional companies around the country or in film and television, our alumni have also started their own dance and theatre companies or academies, performed with Disney, worked with arts organizations in organizational and administrative roles, written and produced their own plays, and brought the performing arts into community and educational organizations.
And finally, sometimes their creative paths take them in new and unexpected directions, like working in communications, pursuing careers in health care as therapists or doctors, modeling, or other avenues that they might not have envisioned when beginning their journey at UL Lafayette. Whichever path you choose (or encounter in unexpected ways) the education you receive as part of the Performing Arts program will ensure that you are ready to step through whatever doors may open for you on your journey.
So, come create, perform, grow with us!
