Jazz Ensemble
The UL Lafayette Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece "big band” that performs best in contemporary jazz, and well as standards made famous by Jazz greats such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton. The ensemble has performed with multiple Grammy award winning artists, including Diane Schuur, the New York Voices, Gordon Goodwin, and Paquito D'Rivera.
An exciting part of playing in the Jazz Ensemble is the variety of unique places and “gigs” you get to do. We play at the Acadiana Center for the Arts every year in a cabaret setting, much like a night-club, and we provide the entertainment for the annual Beaux Arts Ball produced by the College of the Arts. It’s like being in a professional big band, especially since we perform over 40 charts each year.
Players with big band experience are always welcome, but every year we have folks who are new to the genre, and who do a great job while learning a new style. Take a shot and audition!
