Auditions & Scholarships

UPDATE: Auditions for the Fall 2020 Pride of Acadiana Color Guard will be held by video.

**Please note - returning members of the Pride of Acadiana Color Guard do NOT need to audition this year.**

Prospective members should be enrolled (or in the process of enrolling) at either UL Lafayette or SLCC.   All interested students should register for the audition here.

Due to the circumstances we're currently experiencing, we have decided that all current members of the PoA Colorguard will be accepted onto the team this fall WITHOUT an audition.  This is for time and efficiency purposes.

For new members, we will be doing a video audition.  If you haven't already, please go to music.louisiana.edu/register and fill out your information for our database.  For your video submission, you can use a Google Drive link, an unlisted YouTube link, or an MP4 if the file isn't too big.  Here is what you need to do for the audition (this comes from Mr. James Cork, our guard instructor):

An introduction: Name, formal high school, and answer Why do you want to be a member of POA Color Guard?
50 Drop Spins: Left and Right
32 counts of what they consider cones
3 tosses of their choice
32 counts of a routine with music.
Marching: 16 steps forward, 16 steps backwards, 16 left sides, 16 right sides

This video needs to be emailed to Mr. James Cork at jcork77@gmail.com AND Dr. Jason Missal at jason.missal@louisiana.edu by FRIDAY, MAY 1 to receive consideration for scholarships.  Please email Dr. Missal or Mr. Cork with any questions about the audition.

Guard members are awarded the Service Award of $600 (fall only) OR a Housing Award.  Please see the Scholarship Page for more details.

Feature Twirler

PLEASE NOTE: At this time there are no available spots for feature twirler, but if you are interested in auditioning in the future you are encouraged to contact one of the Marching Band directors.

For those interested in twirling, we have opportunities for feature-level twirlers. We use one to two twirlers, but multiple twirlers do not do synchronized routines. Auditions are held the same day as guard auditions, but private auditions can be scheduled if the audition days are not convenient. A routine should be prepared in advance that showcases your abilities as a feature twirler. Please contact us for additional details. Feature twirlers are awarded the Service Award of $600 (fall only) OR a Housing Award.

See the Scholarship Page for more details.
