Dance Students Work with Artists in Residence

Students from UL Lafayette's Dance program spent the week of March 28–April 1, working with Blakeley White-McGuire, principal dancer for the Martha Graham Dance Company, and Daniel Fetucua Soto of the José Limón Dance Company, who were in residency for that time.

The guests artists worked with the students on developing a new choreographic piece. They traveled to Comeaux High School on Friday, April 1, where the guest artists gave a lecture/demonstration to the Performing Arts Academy. Blakeley gave a brief history of her journey with the Martha Graham company, and Daniel described his journey with The José Limón Dance Company. They then performed solo excerpts. The lecture and demonstration concluded with UL dancers performing the new piece. Some of the dancers had a chance to describe the intensive process, which gave the high school students a glimpse of what a residency looks like.

This residency was made possible with funding from a SPARK grant as well as a Friends of the Humanities grant.
