Greg Romero Short Play Presented in New York City

Still Shot from Last Fantasy PackageGreg Romero's short play, "The Last Fantasy Package," was presented at The Tank in New York City on Oct. 6, 2022, as part of the project "7 x 7". The project is an ongoing program in which seven playwrights—some from NYC and some from across the country—are selected to create a 10-minute play that makes use of seven rules, each rule specific to this particular iteration of the project.

Each playwright was asked to give five rules in response to a series of prompts, and the progam's producer, Brett Epstein, selected seven rules from this pool of responses to give to the playwrights. Some of this year's rules included, "something is broken," "Ponzi scheme," "a threat on the first page," "one character can say no more than 5 words in a line of dialogue," "one character adjusts another character's posture."

The playwrights then had a couple of weeks to write the seven rules into a new play, put together a creative team that included a director and actors, and were given up to nine hours of rehearsal time at The Tank, including a single 40-minute technical rehearsal.

Romero's play included a character who was part wolf, a "transporter" made from a collander and crazy straws, and a choreographed dance to a composition created by Mike Vernusky (Sound Designer, "Eurydice").
