"Anastasia" Pit Musician Speaks to Music Students

On Nov. 17, the students of the School of Music were delighted to host professional pit musician Dr. Shengwen Wu. Wu accompanies the touring production of "Anastasia: The Broadway Musical," and while the show was in Lafayette, she graciously visited our campus to speak to our students. During her presentation, Wu discussed the skills she's developed to be successful and how individuals looking to pursue a similar path can prepare now. Wu shared some of the day-to-day experiences of life as a pit musician on tour, and how that compares to gigging in one geographic location. She also gave tips on how to maintain mastery on more than one instrument, which is critical in a pit orchestra. The students enjoyed hearing about another musical career perspective and a chance to hear Wu play in the presentation and later that day in "Anastasia."
