Headshot of Brian EglandUL Lafayette Theatre alumnus Brian Egland is one of four theatre artists selected by the National Black Theatre for their 2022 I AM SOUL series LAB residency program. He has received the residency in Playwriting. This residency serves emerging Black theatre artists from around the nation with a commitment to producing a workshop production of a new original text created over an 18-month process. Brian's journey with NBT began in 2020 as a semifinalist for the I AM Soul Playwriting Residency, when he was offered two micro-grants to assist him in creating new plays. He has also generously stayed engaged as a mentor and creative collaborator with the current Theatre students at UL Lafayette, returning to work on an original piece entitled "Boxes in the Ground" in Fall 2020 that subsequently streamed on Broadway On Demand and received Honorable Mention in their Stage/Screen Shorts Film Festival.
