Three students from the Vocal Arts area in the School of Music and Performing Arts recently attended the Southern Region conference and competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). The conference serves Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas where universities and private voice studios are represented. We were very proud that all three students who attended placed in the finals of their respective categories. Alexander Laiche placed first in both the graduate Classical and Musical Theatre categories. Elle Housley placed first in Classical and third in Musical Theatre. Timothy Sam placed second in the American Negro Spiritual category. All three students study with Professor Shawn Roy, the coordinator of the Vocal Arts area and Director of the UL Lafayette Opera Theatre. Congratulations to these students for representing the university in such a positive way.
