Piano Pedagogy

This Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in piano pedagogy offers training and practical experience in the teaching of beginning and intermediate level piano students, preparing students for a career in piano teaching. Training is provided in both established teaching techniques, methods, and materials as well as with the most current computer and keyboard technology. The piano pedagogy candidates have the opportunity to teach in the UL Lafayette Piano Institute program.
Pedagogy Majors also take classes in Applied Piano, Music Theory, Music History, Keyboard Literature, Keyboard Harmony and perform a Senior Recital.
Graduates in pedagogy are typically self-employed, operating studios where they teach private lessons or in groups. Graduates from this program may also find employment teaching piano in private schools, music stores, and pre-college programs at universities throughout the country. Many students go on to study Piano Pedagogy at the graduate level.
In your courses, you'll learn how to work with a range of students, from preschool to young adult. You'll also learn how to teach different musical techniques and literature to students, as well as teaching the different genres of piano music.
Prepares you to become an independent piano teacher. Graduates in this area are typically self-employed, operating home studios where they teach either private lessons or in groups. Graduates from this program may also find employment teaching piano in private schools, music stores, and pre-college programs at universities throughout the country. These students may pursue careers in higher education.
