This Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in piano pedagogy offers training and practical experience in the teaching of beginning and intermediate level piano students, preparing students for a career in piano teaching. Training is provided in both established teaching techniques, methods, and materials as well as with the most current computer and keyboard technology. Practical experience is gained through supervised teaching in the UL Pedagogy Lab Program.
Pedagogy Majors also take classes in Applied Piano, Music Theory, Music History, Keyboard Literature, Keyboard Harmony and perform a Senior Recital.
Graduates in pedagogy are typically self-employed, operating studios where they teach private lessons or in groups. Graduates from this program may also find employment teaching piano in private schools, music stores, and pre-college programs at universities throughout the country. Many students go on to study Piano Pedagogy at the graduate level.
In your courses, you'll learn how to work with a range of students, from preschool to young adult. You'll also learn how to teach different musical techniques and literature to students, as well as teaching the different genres of piano music.
